BA.Psych(Hons), Dip.Law, Grad.Dip.Counselling & Psychotherapy, M.Psych(Clinical), PhD
I’m a clinical psychologist who is passionate about working with adults, adolescents, and couples to help them to reduce their suffering, enhance their adaptive coping, and improve their quality of life. I strive to provide a warm and empathic therapeutic environment, with a commitment to working collaboratively with clients to help them achieve their therapy goals. I aim to match the therapy modality used to the individual needs of each client, drawing on a range of evidence-based treatments including: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Mindfulness-Based Therapies, Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (STDP), Compassion-Focused Therapy, and Emotion-Focused Therapies for Individuals & Couples.
I work with a wide range of presentations but I am particularly passionate about working with individuals struggling with eating disorders, body image concerns, low self-worth/self-esteem issues, internalised shame, and identity issues. Other presentation I have a particular interest in working with include: drug and alcohol problems, addiction, emotion dysregulation, enhancing emotional awareness, relationship difficulties, anxiety disorders, trauma, stress and coping, sleep disorders, personality disorders, and complex and comorbid presentations.
I completed my clinical psychology training at Macquarie University; including a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology)(Honours) degree with First Class Honours, a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology, and PhD in Clinical Psychology. I am also trained as psychotherapist, having completed a Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy with the Australian College of Applied Psychology. I have worked at Macquarie University as an academic, tutoring on a number of undergraduate psychology units, and with Campus Wellbeing. I have clinical experience working in a number of private inpatient settings, including South Pacific Private Hospital and the Hills Clinic; across a range of public inpatient and community health settlings, including the Northern Beaches Drug, Alcohol, and Gambling Service; and in private practice.
My passion for working with people struggling with eating disturbances drove my PhD research, which investigated eating disorders and the role of attachment dynamics, self-regulation, and emotion regulation in eating disturbances in young women. I have been fortunate to present my research at numerous national and international conferences, including conferences in both the UK and USA and in published written works.
